Weekly & Daily Pay to Hourly Calculator

Turn a day rate, weekly pay or biweekly paycheck into an hourly rate, a monthly figure and a yearly salary

Most pay converters start from an hourly rate or an annual salary. Plenty of jobs do not: day rates on construction and event work, weekly pay in staffing and trucking, a biweekly paycheck that is the only number on the stub. This calculator starts from whichever of those you have and works outwards, using the hours you actually work rather than assuming 40.

The arithmetic

Hourly = weekly pay ÷ hours worked in the week. Weekly pay is the day rate × days worked, or a biweekly paycheck ÷ 2. Yearly = weekly × 52, and monthly = yearly ÷ 12. The last step is where most mental maths goes wrong: a month is not four weeks. Multiplying weekly pay by four drops four weeks a year, so $1,100 a week is $4,766.67 a month, not $4,400.

When the hours are not 40

A day rate hides the length of the day. $200 for an 8-hour day is $25 an hour; the same $200 for a 10-hour day is $20. Put your real hours in the calculator. The same applies to salaried weeks that routinely run to 45 or 50 hours: the pay stays fixed while the hourly value drops, which matters when you compare it with an hourly job that pays overtime.

Weekly, biweekly and semi-monthly are different

Weekly pay arrives 52 times a year and biweekly 26 times, so two months a year contain three biweekly paydays. Semi-monthly pay arrives 24 times, on fixed dates. A $2,000 biweekly paycheck is $52,000 a year; a $2,000 semi-monthly paycheck is $48,000. If your stub says "semi-monthly", multiply by 24, not 26.

Before tax, and what comes out

Every figure is gross. Employees lose 7.65% to FICA (Social Security and Medicare) before federal and state income tax. Contractors paid a day rate on a 1099 owe self-employment tax of 15.3% on 92.35% of net earnings instead, and nothing is withheld — the self-employment tax calculator on this site works through that.

Getting to $1,000 a week

The hourly rate $1,000 a week needs at 20-50 hours, what it is after 2026 tax, and three stacked plans that add up.

Frequently asked questions
