Hourly to Salary Calculator: Convert Your Pay Fast

Convert an hourly wage to annual, monthly, fortnightly, weekly and daily pay — or work backwards from a salary

Use this calculator to convert hourly pay into salary equivalents. Useful when comparing job offers, negotiating raises, or pricing freelance work.

Quick Benchmarks

$15/hr = $31,200/year. $25/hr = $52,000/year. $50/hr = $104,000/year. $100/hr = $208,000/year. (Based on 40 hrs/week × 52 weeks.)

Don't Forget Taxes

Take-home is typically 70–80% of gross. A $52K salary nets ~$40K in most US states after federal, state, and FICA taxes.

Freelance Multiplier

Freelancers should charge ~2x what they'd earn employed to cover taxes (no employer match), no benefits, no PTO, and downtime between gigs.

The conversion in one line

Hourly rate × hours a week × paid weeks a year = annual salary. Full-time in the US is conventionally 40 × 52 = 2,080 hours, so $25 an hour is $52,000 a year and $50 an hour is $104,000. Going the other way, divide the salary by 2,080: $60,000 a year is $28.85 an hour. Everything else on this page is that sum with the assumptions made explicit.

Where the 2,080 figure quietly misleads

2,080 hours assumes all 52 weeks are paid. Salaried roles usually are, because holiday and paid time off are counted as worked hours. Hourly roles frequently are not: two unpaid weeks makes the working year 2,000 hours, and the same nominal rate then pays about 4% less than the salaried equivalent. When you compare an hourly job offer against a salaried one, convert on the hours you will actually be paid for, not the standard.

Biweekly and twice-monthly are different paychecks

Every two weeks is 26 pay runs a year. On the 15th and the last day is 24. On $52,000 those are $2,000 and $2,166.67 — the biweekly paycheck is smaller, and twice a year a third one lands in the same calendar month. That third paycheck is not extra money, and budgeting the monthly figure while being paid biweekly is the most common way people end up short.

Why a freelance rate is not the same number

An employee pays 7.65% FICA and the employer pays the other 7.65%. Self-employed, you pay both halves. On top of that you buy your own health cover, fund your own time off, and absorb the weeks between contracts. That is why the usual advice is to charge roughly double your employed hourly rate — not greed, arithmetic. The freelance rate calculator works it through properly, and the contractor versus employee calculator puts a specific offer on both sides.

Worked answers for specific numbers

If you came here with one number in mind rather than a tool, the pages below already have it worked out — every pay period, part-time and overtime schedules, the exact FICA figure and the raise maths at that level. There are 22 of them, for the hourly rates, salaries and monthly amounts people search for most, and the converter at the top of each one works any other figure.

Paid by the day, the week or part-time?

This converter starts from an hourly rate. If your pay is a day rate, a weekly amount or a biweekly paycheck, or your hours are part-time, these start from the number you actually have.

What that salary is after tax

This converter gives gross pay. The take-home calculator applies the 2026 federal brackets, Social Security, Medicare, a 401(k) and your state rate.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert my hourly wage to an annual salary?

Multiply the hourly rate by the hours you work in a week, then by the number of paid weeks in the year. The standard full-time assumption is 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours, so $25 an hour is $52,000 a year. If two weeks are unpaid, use 50 weeks instead and the same rate pays $50,000.

How many work hours are in a year?

2,080 for standard full-time — 40 hours a week across all 52 weeks, counting paid holiday and paid time off as worked hours. 2,000 if two weeks a year are unpaid. 1,040 at half-time.

Is $25 an hour a good salary?

$25 an hour is $52,000 a year at 40 hours, which is 3.4 times the federal minimum wage of $7.25. Whether it is enough depends entirely on where you live and how many hours you actually get. A more useful test than any national average: on the common rule of keeping housing under 30% of gross, $52,000 supports about $1,300 a month in rent or mortgage.

How much is $25 an hour after taxes?

FICA alone takes 7.65% — $3,978 on $52,000, leaving $48,022 before any income tax. Federal income tax comes out on top of that, and so does state income tax in most states. As a planning band rather than a calculation, take-home commonly lands somewhere between $37,440 and $41,600 a year, which is $3,120 to $3,466.67 a month. Your actual figure depends on your state, filing status and deductions.

What hourly rate do I need to earn $100,000 a year?

$48.08 an hour at 40 hours a week for 52 weeks. At 45 hours a week it is $42.74, and at 50 hours a week it is $38.46 — which is why the hours matter as much as the rate when you compare two offers.

Does this calculator include tax?

It shows gross pay and the exact FICA deduction of 7.65%. It does not calculate federal or state income tax, because those depend on your filing status, deductions and state — anything showing you a single take-home number without asking for those is guessing.
